Accessibility Statement

Our commitment
Serene & Scandi Living is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they browse with. We treat accessibility as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time task, and we review the site as content changes.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. These guidelines are widely used as the benchmark for making web content perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.
What we have done
This site has been reviewed against WCAG 2.1 Level AA, with measured rather than estimated results. Steps taken include:
- Text contrast — foreground and background colour pairs across the site were measured against the 4.5:1 minimum for normal text, and text that fell short was darkened. This included small print such as pricing notes and affiliate disclosures.
- Images — every image on the site carries alternative text describing its content, so it can be conveyed by a screen reader. Purely decorative elements are marked so assistive technology can skip them.
- Page structure — each page uses a single main heading followed by a logical heading order, a labelled navigation landmark, and a main content landmark, so the page can be navigated by structure rather than by sight alone.
- Keyboard access — every page begins with a “Skip to main content” link, and all interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard.
- Touch targets — buttons and links are sized to meet a minimum 44 × 44 pixel target so they can be activated reliably on touch devices.
- Reduced motion — if your device or browser is set to reduce motion, the site’s decorative animations and scroll effects are switched off automatically.
- Language — each page declares its language so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
Known limitations
We want to be straightforward about where the site may fall short:
- Large decorative numerals appear behind some sections as a visual device. They are hidden from assistive technology and carry no information, but they are intentionally low in contrast.
- Some product photography includes text within the image itself, supplied by the manufacturer. Where this occurs, the surrounding text describes the product.
- Links to Amazon open on a third-party website whose accessibility is outside our control.
- We have not commissioned an independent third-party accessibility audit or testing with assistive technology users. Our review has been technical and internal.
A note on accessibility overlays
This site does not use an accessibility overlay or plugin widget. We prefer to address accessibility in the site’s own code, because overlays sit on top of a page rather than fixing the underlying markup and can interfere with the assistive technology a visitor already uses.
Tell us about a problem
If you encounter something on this site that you cannot access or use, we want to hear about it. Please email hello@sereneandscandiliving.com with the page address and a short description of the problem.
We aim to respond within five working days. If we cannot resolve an issue quickly, we will tell you what we intend to do and when.
